Philippe MIELE received his PhD in Inorganic Chemistry in 1993 at the University of Montpellier. He was Assistant Professor at the University of Lyon (1994) and promoted Professor in 2000. In this University, he headed the Laboratory of Multimaterials and Interfaces (2003-2010). In fall 2010, he joined the European Institute of Membranes as group leader and Director till 2020.

His research interests lie mainly in boron chemistry, particularly for molecules and materials for energy and environmental applications. He is mostly recognized as an expert in the field of non-oxide advanced ceramics using the Polymer Derived Ceramics (PDCS) route for his works on boron nitride based materials. He has co-authored more than 300 papers in international journals, 13 patents and has given more than 50 invited talks in international meetings. He was nominated junior member (2003) then senior member (2016) of the “Institut Universitaire de France” (IUF) and has been elected in 2011 at the “World Academy of Ceramics”.
